GavinWood History - Founder Mark Gavin

Mark Gavin moved to Oahu, from New Jersey, in June of 1979. He began doing some house painting and small repairs to make money, as he had done during his college time at Rutgers University. He graduated from Rutgers in 1975, with degrees in accounting and business. As time in Hawaii went on, he acquired more skills and tools, and was able to offer a broader range of services to his clients.

His first “shop” was an open carport, in an old house on Kaimuki Avenue. In 1984, he moved into a house in Kailua, which had an enclosed 2-car garage – major upgrade! In 1989, he moved into a small industrial space on Hamakua Drive, expanded a few times, and began hiring workers to help him with his continuing work. The company moved to Hekili Street in year 2000, and finally moved to our current location, in the new area of Kapaa Industrial Park, in late 2006. Our shop is much larger now, at 10,000 SF, and we have convenient parking right outside our building.

 We currently have 5 to 6 full time highly skilled shop and site workers, plus a part time office manager. Mark’s time is mostly devoted to meeting with clients, designing, and running the business. He is fortunate to be able to rely on the team at GavinWood to maintain the highest quality of workmanship. In the past few years, we have been able work with clients on much larger projects, including luxury homes, retail stores, and office tenant improvements. We continue to work well with homeowners who want the assurance of receiving the best quality and service, at a fair price.
